When Should You Take a Pregnancy Test?

A pregnancy test is usually more reliable around or after a missed period. Some tests can detect pregnancy earlier, but early testing can also produce a negative result before hormone levels are high enough.

Early Test Timing

Many timing estimates start around 10 days after ovulation. This is an early estimate, not a guarantee.

Recommended Timing

Testing around the expected period date or after a missed period usually gives a more useful result.

Why Early Negatives Happen

Ovulation may have happened later than expected, implantation may not have occurred yet, or the test may not be sensitive enough for the current hormone level.
